Baacooly is a self-taught artist hailing from a small town in the culturally rich Penang, Malaysia. As a child, she can often be found doodling on old newspapers, the back of torn calendar pages, and various other scratch papers laying about. Growing up, she was introduced to poster colours (which she mistook for watercolours), colour pencils, and crayons which were popular in schools back then.

As life became increasingly busy, her passion for art took a back seat. She went on to work in the tech industry. Though she had a decent job and a comfortable pay, she constantly felt something was missing.

In 2016, she quit her job and took some time off to re-discover herself. After searching and stumbling for more than a year, she accidentally came across some watercolour painting videos on Youtube and decided to give it a go and the rest was history. It felt like coming home.

She currently creates her art pieces in watercolour (the real watercolour) with a little mixed media thrown into her work. Her preferred subject matters are female characters painted in a surreal manner often portray as seemingly lost in thoughts. She draws inspiration from her own experiences in life and whatever tugs her heart the most at the time of creation. Rarely does she explain her thoughts behind each piece but rather prefer her audience to draw up their own stories and thoughts when they view her paintings.

Baacooly paints out of her home studio in the beautiful Pacific Northwest which she shares with her husband, two pooches and a little green chicken.
